Poster Children: Round Four

At Welt, each of us are affected by design differently. We are committing this week to showcasing posters that define our different tastes and let you know who we are a little better. Enjoy.

As a fan of jazz piano, the subject matter starts out in my good graces. It’s simple. Pleasing to the eye. Bold colors. What’s not to like?

We want to know what your favorite poster is. Send us a link and a short blurb to steve@weltbranding.com and we’ll post it for ya!

And of course, you can always reach us through social media…

Poster Children: Round Three

At Welt, each of us are affected by design differently. We are committing this week to showcasing posters that define our different tastes and let you know who we are a little better. Enjoy.

I love the old school feel of this poster and all the detail that went into it. It has a very understated quality to it; from the color to the rough edges of the artwork. But there is so much more to it when you really look at it. It is definitely my kind of thing!

Poster Children: Round Two

I’m a big fan of this poster. It’s psychedelic lines come together to form a stylized image (check out the eye). I’m a big fan of the color choices too. That’s one laid back ram!

Poster Children: Round One

At Welt, each of us are affected by design differently. We are committing this week to showcasing posters that define our different tastes and let you know who we are a little better. Enjoy.

As an art director in this fast pace world, I sometimes feel over-stimulated with visual images and ideas. In these swirling moments, it’s important to step back and remember where the profession started and how we can learn something from the graphic designers who led the way. Many designers made a difference in the graphic industry and Saul Bass was one of them. Bass created original and unique graphic images consisting of simple shapes and geometric designs. Bass’ simplicity and ability to perfect a composition communicated volumes. As Bass would say, “Design is thinking made visual.”

Learning to Say No to Bad Ideas

In a world where designers get a bad rap for being difficult (granted it’s sometimes justified), this is an excellent article about the “nice” way to say no. It’s a delicate art-form to master and a great superpower for a designer to hold. Enjoy the article!

Do you have trouble saying no to bad ideas? Is it harder to say no or to suffer through the bad idea process?

Tramp Stamped LEGO

Who doesn’t love LEGO? Who can’t appreciate an artistic tattoo? This campaign brings the two together in a truly clever way to highlight the super thin lines of the product. Caps off to both the creative team behind this (Grey Group from Barcelona) and the marketing folks at Pilot who gave it the green light.

What do you think?

Welcome Humans!

Despite what you may have heard, we gnomes have a natural eye for design. In fact, we’ve been working with Welt designers for some time. When they have a time crunch, we step in at dusk to complete the task. In exchange for great work, we get paid in Starbuck’s sleeves. If we do an extraordinary job, they give us eraser heads and popcorn kernels. I have the most in the village. It’s obviously a good arrangement for us, but we wish more people recognized our involvement. That’s why I created this blog. It’s a mix of inspiring design and flashes of brilliance. So check us out regularly. Never deny a gnome his due!

Sincerely,

Walter Barrowdelf

My Letters Collection

Letterpress is one of the oldest ways of getting the printed word onto a page. It relies on the physical representation of each letter. It’s an almost sensual way of looking at how a word can be formed. I’m pretty sure I have a mild obsession with typography, but letterpress is a wonderful way of being immersed in the detail of type and design.
